Jan 27, 2, 0 My computer would fail to enter the sleep mode in Vista Ultimate 64 - so I unchecked "Allow this device to bring the computer out of standby" for all the mice and the keyboard. It helped - Vista would enter sleep, but would Blue Screen on Wake-up. At least that's what happens in case of some ASUS boards.

Can't get Vista to load at all after putting it into sleep mode. All I get is a continuous, steady ticking sound after pressing the power button on the case.

Nothing else happens. Any clues? Monday, December 17, PM. Monday, May 7, AM. I'm having a different sleep mode problem with my Acer laptop using Vista Home Premium - whenever I put it in "Sleep" or "Hibernate" it "wakes" itself within 10 - 30 seconds.

Anyone have any suggestions? It's driving me nuts It's a new system, only a month old. Wednesday, May 9, AM. Pretty old laptop - Acer TravelMate Have same problem and an additional one - after minutes of use it simply hangs no response at all, even Ctrl-Alt-Del I believe it has something to do with Vista's power and heat management at least my laptop is pretty hot at the time it hangs.

Friday, May 11, AM. Hi folkes, I have a desktop which does not wake up correctly after "sleep". May it is due to the OS? Saturday, May 12, PM. Gentry 0.

I did notice that this was posted a while back. I have a dell with the same problem. It seemed that when I disabled restore points it stopped doing it. Here is a trick that "supposedly" might be a workaround on your system. Go the the command prompt under administrator mode. Type powercfg -h on This turns the hibernate function back on the system. There is also a command to see what power options are available on your system It's supposed to say hybrid sleep Did you ever find anything out?!?

Tuesday, May 22, AM. Have any of you tried the hotfix for the sleep problem: KB? Thursday, May 24, AM. Anyone got a fix?

Thursday, May 24, PM. Same problems here with Vista on an HP laptop. Sometimes it won't wake up from sleep, other times it wakes itself up while the lid is still closed. Major pain! I can't even find any info on the web for troubleshooting this problem.

I've disabled sleep mode and have the laptop shut down completely whenever I close the lid. I hate it but don't see any other choice other than leaving the laptop plugged in all the time. Friday, May 25, AM. In my case, its unpredictable. Sometimes it wont wake up and I have to do a hard reboot, other times it wakes up just fine! Very bizarre I cant find anything on it either anywhere.

Friday, May 25, PM. No, I didnt know about it. Can you send me the hyperlink and I'll give it a try? Thank you! Saturday, May 26, AM. Google the KB. Here's the description of the fix: Install this update to resolve an issue where the default gateway setting is lost when you wake a computer running Windows Vista from a sleep state. Saturday, May 26, PM. Alienware fresh out of the box with Vista Home Basic cheapos. This OS sucks; closing the lid into sleep mode can never be brought out of sleep mode always ends in a hard reboot.

I can't even use the power button set to sleep mode , same thing results. KB, like the goggles of Radioactive Man, it does nothing. Guess who cares? Not Alienware or Microsoft. Anyone have any ideas for a dollar paper weight? Monday, May 28, AM. Just wait until you get the "can't rename files or folders syndrome" MS is ignoring it also.

The Apple ads are spot on! Monday, May 28, PM. Tuesday, May 29, AM. Hi, how did you get it to wake up from sleep. My laptop will not wake up and its driving me nuts, i cant access anything just a blank screen when i press the power button. Tuesday, June 5, AM. Thursday, July 5, PM. Monday, July 16, PM. Sunday, August 5, PM. I hope this helps.

Wow that post from Kim Jensen did help, thanks! My laptop still locks up or gets flaky now and then when coming out of sleep, but not nearly as bad as before. I guess taking it out of "HP recommended" power settings made the big difference. I already had hybrid sleep enabled, but it works much better under the "power saver" plan. Monday, August 6, AM. The computer just hangs until I remove the cd or dvd. Once I restart everything is back to normal. Tuesday, August 28, AM. Boson 0. Hi All, About three weeks ago I purchased a new Dell Inspiron notebook computer with Vista basic installed, quite a nice machine actually.

But from day one I bagan to experience the dreaded and now seemingly all too common Vista Sleep Problems. After about a week of this I finally had a block of time on a Sunday afternoon to call Dell Tech Support. After a very extensive wait time on hold I finally spoke to a very apologetic tech whom told that this was the first time he had heard of this problem, but he will do all that it takes to help me out.

After more hold time he was able to log on to my computer via the Dell Connect. He then placed me on hold for another 15 minutes while he obtaining the new video driver that need to be installed. He installed the new video drive and told me that the problem will go away after I re-boot and asked that if experieneced any more problems to call him directly and he gave me his phone number.

Two hours for all that I re-booted the computer and the problem was worse than before, so I restored the system to the previous restore point and left the problem for the next day after attempting to call the tech on his direct number several times and leaving voice mail messages.

So on Monday I yet again called Dell Tech Support with my case number and spoke with a very helpful tech whom spent another hour with me and finally told me that he no idea what the trouble could be and said that my case is being escalated to a support engineer for reslution and I should expect a telephone call within 72 hrs.

Another hour for that call and So at that point I decided I had spent far too much time dealing with the problem and called Dell Customer Service and related my story and siad I wished to return the computer for a full refund, after almost begging me to accept a brand new replacement shipped overnight, the rep finally gave in and issued me a return authorization and emailed a UPS pre-paid shipping label.

So for me the perfect solution to the problem was to return the problem to Dell and get a refund. The point is how much time is one willing to spend on a known problem such as this, for me I obviously reached my limit after several hours. Any thoughts on how I can avoid this problem on my next laptop purchase that I need to make, from doing some searching around after the fact, it appears that this is a known Vista problem with no certain fixes. Monday, September 10, PM. Hi, That sounds similar to my problem but mine seems to not go to sleep because the wifi, power and disk lights stay on. Other times it works fine. Have you had any luck finding a resolution? Saturday, October 27, AM. Double-click the name of the device to open a Properties window.

Click the Power Management tab, and remove the selection from Allow this device to wake the computer. Figure 6: Power management tab for a mouse NOTE: If you prevent the mouse from being able to wake the comuter, wake the computer using the Sleep button on the keyboard or from the power button on the front of the computer. Click OK, close the windows that are open, and then restart the computer. Disconnect all non-essential connected devices printers, scanners, USB drives.

Restart the computer with only the original mouse, monitor, and keyboard connected. Replace one device and test to see if the problem occurs again. Continue adding devices and testing until the you find the device that is causing the problem. If the problem has always existed, skip this step. To perform a System Restore: Save any open files and close all programs. Backup any important files. When the System Restore wizard opens, you can either select Choose a different restore point, and then click Next.

Figure 7: Choosing a restore point Click Finish in the "Confirm your restore point" window. Click Yes in the confirmation message that opens. The computer should shut down and turn back on automatically after the restoration completes. The Restoration Complete window appears. NOTE: If System Restore resolves the problem, the problem is probably caused by software that was installed after the restore point date.

Disabling or changing the screen saver may resolve the problem. Click Start , and then click Control Panel. Click Appearance and Personalization.
